Dominguez High School Super Six

Together since elementary school, six students at Dominguez High School made the promise to always get the best grades and go to college. And they did it.  “Get it together” became a mantra for Kimberly Fernandez, Daina Espinosa, Nancy Rivas, Jannet Gomez, Yenifer Espitia and Elizabeth Perez Gayosso; any time one of them was lagging in one of their classes, all of the others pushed her to do better. All of them were accepted at top colleges in California and they became a symbol of perseverance at Compton Unified School District. The story captivated the attention of local and national media.

Harbor College Awards Honorary Degree to Victim of San Bernardino Terrorist Attack

Aurora Godoy was the youngest victim of the terrorist attack in San Bernardino on Dec. 2, 2015. She was only 26 years old, married, mother of a 2-year old boy and enrolled at Harbor College at the time of her death. To honor her memory, Harbor College posthumously awarded her an associate degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences.

On May 11, 2016, in coordination with the press office of Harbor College we invited the media to the ceremony. The day of the event we facilitated live shots for the main TV station in the Los Angeles area, distributed press materials, and coordinated interviews with college officials and family members, both in English and Spanish.
